Verma, Gerdeman place at 2016 USA Road Nationals

TREXLERTOWN, Pa. – T-town Elite was well represented at the 2016 USA Cycling Amateur Road National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky last week.

Leading the contingent of T-town’s future stars was Divya Verma who won the national championship in the female junior 11-12 year old criterium as she posted a time of 16:55. Verma coupled that title with a fourth place finish in the female junior 11-12 year old road race.

On the male side, Luke Gerdeman earned a second place finish in the male junior 11-12 year old criterium race with a time of 19:06, just one second behind the winner. Additionally, Gerdeman finished seventh in the male junior 11-12 year old road race.

Divya Verma’s brother, Divik, took home two top-ten finishes from the championships, finishing seventh in the criterium and ninth in the road race.

Others who competed were Homare Yamashita, Anson Wright, and Connor Thompson.

Overall, Valley Preferred Cycling Center Executive Director Marty Nothstein, who helps coach the aforementioned athletes, was pleased with the performances.

“I am happy with how our riders did at road nationals,” Nothstein related. “They went down to Kentucky and showed what year-round training does. I hope they continue to train hard and carry that success into track nationals, which is right here in just a few weeks.”
