Friday Nights Under the Lights

Friday nights in T-Town are the stuff of legend. A tradition since 1975, the Valley Preferred Cycling Center and the Lehigh Valley have hosted the very best track athletes in the world every Friday night throughout the summer for decades. Still going strong, Friday Nights Under the Lights provide a great spectating experience week in week out – and the opportunity for racers to test themselves in the crucible of our famed concrete crater.

Eligible racing categories are 1 and 2’s for men and women with invited category 3 racers on a case by case basis.

All VPCC run community programs, training sessions and racing will fully comply with all relevant current state, local and USAC guidelines. In keeping with the newly updated CDC and PADOH mask guidelines, Lehigh County has authorized the following policy regarding masks on the field of play for our venue:

Fully vaccinated individuals may race without masks. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days since receiving the second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine OR fourteen days since receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Riders are required to provide proof of vaccination in the form of their CDC vaccination card (or photo) at the Rider Registration window for all events moving forward or until the policy is updated. Upon verification of status, riders will be issued a wristband. The registration window opens at 7:30am.

For riders who are not fully vaccinated, the mask mandate issued by the PADOH requires a mask when unable to consistently maintain six feet of distancing – which includes mass start events. Mask Mandate Section 3 provides for an exception (Section 3A) to this requirement: “Individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition, including those with respiratory issues that impede breathing, mental health condition, or disability.” Section 3B states “Individuals are not required to show documentation that an exemption exists.”

Both athletes and spectators who are not fully vaccinated are also required to wear a mask when unable to maintain six feet of distancing from individuals outside their household. This applies to both the infield and grandstands.

Rider of the Year between @elspeth_huyett and @kimberly.zubris is separated by just 5 points. Huyett is fresh off her first Friday night win and her first National Championship win. She's on a roll and this week's ROY Endurance event is her national championship event: Scratch Race. But with the strong @cyclingcanadaofficial contingent and @amby1999, the field dynamic has shifted recently. Will that benefit her strategy or aid Zubris who has been consistent this season?

Come Friday night at 6pm to see how this race plays out!

@dakotaa.stein is only 2 points down on @johnccroom in the Rider of the Year contest. With the UCI Omnium and the UCI Keirin as the ROY events this week, will Stein be able to keep Croom within reach? Croom is scheduled to miss one Friday night before the end of the year, and if Stein can keep the points close he could win the overall.

Come out Friday night to cheer on Stein at 6pm. Tickets available from the link in bio
