Jamieson Claims American Classic Title After Thrilling Duel with Stein at T-Town
New Zealand Rider Edges Local Favorite in Night of International Racing and America250 Celebration
TREXLERTOWN, Pa. — The American Classic delivered an unforgettable night of international track cycling Friday at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center, highlighted by an intense showdown between Magnus Jamieson (New Zealand - Bike Works p/b Fred Beans) and Dakota Stein (USA -Edge Cycling) that captivated fans throughout the evening.
The pair traded victories across multiple events, setting the stage for one of the most exciting men's competitions of the season.
Stein struck first in spectacular fashion, winning the Flying Mile in 1:38 at an average speed of 58.7 km/h, narrowly edging Jamieson in a photo-worthy finish. Troy Sanders rounded out the podium in third.
Jamieson answered back in the night's tactical events. He captured the Miss & Out, outlasting Ryan Jastrab and Andrew Dudle before putting together a dominant performance in the Point-a-Lap Race. Jamieson won an incredible 12 consecutive sprint laps to finish with 32 points, holding off Sanders (21 points) and Stein (20 points).
Jamieson wasn't finished.
He added victories in both the Open Longest Lap and the evening-ending 30-lap Preme Race.
Stein's Flying Mile victory kept the rivalry alive, but Jamieson's dominant evening tightened the Friday Night Under the Lights Rider of the Year race. Despite the pressure, Dakota Stein continues to hold a slim lead over Magnus Jamieson in the season-long standings 50 points to 47 points respectively.
Jessica Chong Sweeps Women's Racing
In the women's competition, Jessica Chong (Allentown, Pa.) was nearly unbeatable.
Chong opened the evening by winning the Scratch Race over Jillian Halm and Divya Verma before dominating the Point-a-Lap Race, collecting points on 10 of the 15 laps to finish with 12 points.
She completed the sweep by capturing the Women's Preme Race, once again defeating Halm and Verma to earn three victories on the night.
Young Riders Shine
The evening began with the Junior Men Scratch Race, where Joshua Fredericks (Bike Works p/b Fred Beans) sprinted to victory ahead of Christiano Jacelon and Elijah James.
James returned later in the evening to win the Junior Men Longest Lap, adding another impressive result to his growing résumé.
