Jim Alvord
With over 50 years of racing and coaching experience, Jim Alvord is a beloved figure at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center and a 2014 inductee into the VPCC Hall of Fame—an honor that recognizes both his racing accomplishments and decades of contributions to the sport.
Jim began racing in 1974, earning multiple state championships in the sprint and kilo, as well as a Masters National Championship title. In 2024, he added a Masters World Championship bronze medal in the sprint and a fifth-place finish in the 500m time trial to his long list of achievements. Throughout his career, Jim has remained a dedicated competitor and mentor.
A natural teacher, Jim has led the PeeWee Peddlers program for 28 years and helped launch the Wobbles program alongside his son, Jamie, to introduce even younger children to the joys of riding. He’s also coached Paralympic athletes, served as a tandem pilot for Paralympian Pam Fernandez, and worked extensively with Air Products and para-athlete development programs.
After a brief retirement, Jim returned to coaching thanks to encouragement from Coach Andrew Harris and Kelly Harssis. Today, he brings the same passion and joy to the track as ever—focusing not just on skills, but on building confidence and creating memorable experiences for the youngest riders.
"It’s the smiles that matter most. Watching kids get up on the track and believe in themselves—that’s what it’s all about."

Jonathan Chambers
Jonathan Chambers brings over two decades of competitive experience and a deep passion for the sport to his role as an instructor at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center. A veteran of the velodrome, Jonathan has raced at both the elite and masters levels across the country, earning 15 Masters National Championship medals, 5 Pennsylvania BAR (Best All-Around Rider) titles, and numerous state and regional championships. He was also a regular on Friday nights as a Pro/Am competitor.
Jonathan began teaching at T-Town in 2009 and quickly became a trusted mentor in the community programs. His approach is grounded in patience, encouragement, and a true love for helping new riders grow—both on and off the track. For Jonathan, the most meaningful part of instructing is watching young cyclists develop not only as athletes but as confident, capable individuals.
After stepping away in 2018 due to work and family responsibilities, Jonathan returned to the infield in 2023 and has fully embraced the opportunity to be part of the community once again. His goal remains simple and powerful: to spark a lifelong love of cycling in every rider he teaches—just as the sport has done for him.

Angel Jimenez
Angel Jimenez is the Assistant Coach of Edge Cycling. Prior to coaching cycling, Angel coached local youth basketball and soccer teams.
An avid cyclist himself, Angel was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. He grew up surrounded by sports at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. He began swimming at the age of 4 and continued to compete through the age of 22. As triathlon gained popularity, he became part of the first elite group of athletes to train for the sport in the Dominican Republic. Triathlon is where his love for cycling truly developed.
He went on to compete in road cycling with Team Mauricio Báez, participating in seven-day stage races and international competitions in Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the United States. While primarily an endurance athlete on the road, Angel found a deep passion for sprinting on the velodrome. He raced as a track sprinter for law enforcement, representing the police department in the Military Games, and also competed in the Dominican Republic’s National Track Championships and other local cup events.
Angel is a proud father of two active young boys who keep him on his toes. He brings his knowledge, discipline, positive attitude, and love of cycling to the team. His passion for the sport and firm belief in building high-performance athletes through encouragement, excellence, and a strong foundation is evident in everything he does.
