Saturday Racing Schedule Change for July 26th

Riders,

This week’s Masters & Rookies Day of Racing at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center will now feature a Sprint Tournament instead of the originally scheduled Time Trial Day.

Due to a scheduling conflict with our timing equipment provider, we’re unable to deliver a proper time trial experience. However, hand-timed efforts will be available by request for riders who still want a timed run.

To schedule a hand-timed effort, please email Jorge Romero at:
jorge.romero@thevelodrome.com

Thank you for your flexibility—this week’s sprint action promises to be just as exciting!

Round Robin Format for Saturday, July 26th

Track Cycling Sprint Tournament

In this Round Robin sprint tournament, each cyclist will face every other competitor in a series of one-on-one sprint races. This format ensures a fair and competitive environment where consistency and strategy are key.

How It Works:

  • Participants: All registered sprinters are placed into a single group or multiple pools, depending on the number of riders.

  • Matchups: Each rider races against every other rider in their group once.

  • Scoring: Riders earn points for each win (e.g., 1 point per win, 0 for a loss).

  • Ranking: After all matchups are completed, riders are ranked based on total points.

  • Tiebreakers: In case of a tie, head-to-head results, fastest times, or additional races may be used to determine rankings.

Seeding Process – 200m Time Trial Requirement:

To ensure balanced and competitive matchups:

  • All participants must submit a previously recorded 200-meter flying time trial (TT) prior to the tournament.

  • These times will be used to seed riders and assign them to appropriate positions in the Round Robin bracket.

  • Seeding helps distribute top performers evenly across groups and ensures fair competition from the start.

Advancement:

The top-ranked riders from each group advance to the knockout rounds (e.g., quarterfinals, semifinals, finals), where the tournament continues in an elimination format.

Benefits of the Round Robin Format:

  • Guarantees multiple races for each rider

  • Reduces the impact of a single bad race

  • Encourages consistent performance across all heats

  • Seeding based on 200m TT ensures fair and exciting matchups
