Ezra Mumaw - TEAMBSR

Junior Rider

Now in his third season of racing, Ezra Mumaw (13-14 Age Group) is a dedicated junior cyclist representing Team BSR. Specializing in track events like the elimination, points, tempo, and scratch races, Ezra’s favorite event—the elimination—perfectly matches his competitive spirit and love for strategy.

Ezra’s journey into cycling began after watching a Friday Night Lights race at T-Town a few years ago. Intrigued, he took a “Try the Track” class the very next week—and from that moment, he was hooked. What keeps him coming back? The thrill of racing and the incredible speed he feels on the track.

Among his most memorable experiences so far was riding a 250-meter track for the first time at the world-class velodrome in Milton, Canada—a milestone moment that left a lasting impression.

Before races, Ezra keeps his prep simple: a solid warm-up and a good stretch. Post-race, you’ll likely find him refueling with his favorite meal—chicken shawarma. When it comes to dream riding partners, Mathieu van der Poel tops the list. Ezra admires his versatility and excellence across all cycling disciplines.

His favorite place to ride is the velodrome—"because I can go in circles very fast!"—and when he’s not on his bike, Ezra enjoys reading and following F1 racing. His favorite riding music? Upbeat classical scores, like the William Tell Overture.

Ezra’s advice to new cyclists is simple and powerful: "Don’t give up. Keep trying." He maintains balance in his life by following a consistent schedule and routine.

One thing people may be surprised to learn is that Ezra has Tourette’s Syndrome, a neurodevelopmental condition that affects motor skills, focus, and coordination. While traditional sports were often a challenge, Ezra found something different in cycling.

“When I’m on my bike at the track, the world seems to fit together. My body and mind calm, allowing me to have one focus: ride.”

For Ezra, cycling isn’t just a sport—it’s a place of peace, focus, and acceptance. The cycling community has welcomed him with open arms, offering support and encouragement every step of the way. That connection—and his love of riding—drives him to keep pushing, keep pedaling, and keep growing.

Ezra Mumaw’s story is one of passion, perseverance, and purpose—an inspiring journey that’s only just getting started.
