Hazel Shea – Junior Rider Spotlight
Age: 8 | Second Grade | Willow Lane Elementary School, Macungie, PA
Meet Hazel Shea—small but mighty, with a love for speed and a passion for the track! At just 8 years old, Hazel is already a seasoned two-wheel enthusiast with five years of riding under her belt and a bright future on the velodrome.
Hazel first discovered the thrill of track cycling through the Pee Wee Pedalers program at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center when she was only six. From her very first lap, she was hooked. Since then, racing on the track has been her favorite—especially because, in her words, “I can go really fast!”
While she’s also dabbled in cyclocross, the velodrome is where Hazel feels most at home. She’s got the drive, the focus, and the spark that make track racing so exciting to watch.
One of Hazel’s favorite stories? Early in her racing journey, she once went head-to-head with a masters rider who kindly let her take the win. Ever since, Hazel proudly tells people she once “beat a pro” in a race—and honestly, we believe her!
Keep an eye out for Hazel this season. With her fearless energy and fast legs, she’s one of the most exciting young talents on the track!
