Murray Kandel – Junior Rider Spotlight

Age: 8 | Third Season of BRL

Don’t let his age fool you—Murray Kandel is a powerhouse on two wheels. At just 8 years old, Murray is entering his third BRL season with big goals, even bigger heart, and a love for the sport that’s contagious.

A student at Williams Township Elementary in the Wilson Area School District, Murray began racing at just 6 years old—one of the youngest (and smallest!) riders in the Fall 2023 BRL session. Since then, he’s grown in both skill and confidence, earning 3rd place overall in the C Division for the 2024 season.

Cycling is more than a sport for Murray—it’s a tool for focus and fun. Living with combined ADHD, Murray uses track cycling as a positive outlet, channeling his energy into the thrill of competition and self-improvement. He trained all winter with Zwift and Quinny’s Quest and is always ready to take on the next challenge.

He’s also a Halloween regular at the velodrome—dressing up as a pro cyclist two years in a row—and brings his love of the sport into everything he does. Whether pacing his mom on her runs, biking and running in the Tri for Inclusion relay with his sister, or racing his favorite Italian Pursuit and Points races, Murray brings passion, perseverance, and a giant smile.

Off the track, Murray loves painting, gaming, going to the beach, and watching movies. But this summer, he’s most excited to race with friends—old and new—from all across the Lehigh Valley and beyond. Keep your eyes on Murray this season—he’s going places fast!
