The Jim Young Super Tuesdays p/b BJC WebpageCrew

The Valley Preferred Cycling Center is thrilled to announce the Jim Young Super Tuesdays presented by BJC WebpageCrew track cycling series.

The Jim Young Super Tuesdays presented by BJC Webpage Crew track cycling series honors a man whose legacy can’t be captured in a few sentences. Jim touched the lives of many of the Lehigh Valley’s junior bicycle racers who started their track racing experiences as early as eight years old in developmental programs hosted by the VPCC. Jim Young was an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at Penn State University Lehigh Valley, founder of the Penn State Cycling Team, director of the Future Champions Cycling Club, and one of the founders of the National Collegiate Cycling Association.

Jake Burns, Founder, BJC WebpageCrew

He led the Penn State Cycling Team for over 30 years and coached the team to more than a dozen national championships in the team competition and over 45 individual titles. He also personally coached five U.S. Olympians. He was an inspiration to an entire generation of collegiate cyclists and embodied the positive morals that created not only cycling champions, but caring members of society. Jim Young passed away in 2021 after a hard-fought battle with Parkinson’s disease.

One of the most robust mid-week racing series in the US, the Super Tuesdays Series at the Valley Preferred Cycling Center features weekly racing opportunities for future stars, current professionals, and amateur men, women and juniors.

Fans can cheer on their local favorites and reigning stars of the sport on the same fun night. Racers can test their legs against riders from the Lehigh Valley and from around the world in some of the deepest fields in the country all on a warm summer night.

Mass Start Super Tuesday race categories are organized USA Cycling or UCI license category – with all participants racing in their licensed category. USAC categories 1 through 4 for men and women can race on Super Tuesdays. Juniors and Master’s racers will race their USAC licensed categories. Note that recent USAC rule changes have eliminated gear restrictions for juniors in open/categorized racing. Categories maybe combined depending on number of entrants.

Round Robin Sprint Super Tuesdays are open to all category of riders. Riders will be seeded based upon their most recent 200m TT performance. Riders will then be put in to groups of 4 and paired off for sprint rides within those groupings. Each rider will sprint every rider in their grouping once for a total of 3 closely matched sprint rides per night.

2023 Race Schedule

A very important note for the 2023 season: The VPCC will no longer offer Novice/Category 5 mass start races at Jim Young Super Tuesdays presented by BJC WebpageCrew or Masters & Rookies. Novice track racers in 2023 will need to complete the Try-, Ride-, & Race the Track series before participating in mass start races. Riders who raced previously as a Novice/Category 5 and have not chosen to upgrade to Category 4, will need to contact the VPCC to request an upgrade endorsement.

Important Tips

  • Online pre-registration ONLY will be available on BikeReg.
  • Warm-ups conclude at 6:45pm and racing begins no later than 7pm.
  • In the event of severe or inclement weather, racing will be canceled. Races will not be rescheduled, though we may extend the season based on interest. Notifications will be made via this website and on our social channels if the weather causes delay or cancellation.
