Valley Preferred Cycling Center Names Bobby Lea Permanent Executive Director
Local Olympian Continues to Build on Success After His Interim Tenure
The Valley Preferred Cycling Center is excited to name Bobby Lea to the permanent Executive Director role for the organization effective immediately. Lea has served as the Interim Executive Director since July of this year.
“Bobby has done excellent work shepherding the facility through the end of the 2023 season and has laid solid groundwork for a strong 2024,” said Rick Beuttel, Chairman of the VPCC Board of Directors. “We are looking forward to him continuing to build on this success in 2024 and beyond and have complete faith in his leadership.”
Lea, a three-time Olympian, utilized the Valley Preferred Cycling Center for decades as an athlete, coach, and Board member. “I am honored and excited to take on this role with the Valley Preferred Cycling Center” Lea remarked. “This venue has been a fundamental part of my life, and the lives of so many others. I’m committed to building on its incredible legacy. Together with the talented team here, we’ll create a vibrant hub for cycling enthusiasts and athletes of all levels.”
Lea has already announced the 2024 Friday Nights Under the Lights schedule and is working with his team to focus on four key areas:
Expand Community Programming: Lea’s vision includes offering a wide range of cycling programs for residents of the Lehigh Valley and beyond, fostering opportunities for community engagement and personal growth through cycling.
Enhance Spectator Experience: Lea plans to bring new and exciting events to the VPCC while continuing to honor the history of its marquee events, offering an unforgettable experience for spectators and ensuring that the venue is a premier entertainment destination.
Support Local Talent: Lea’s passion for nurturing homegrown talent within the Lehigh Valley aligns with the VPCC’s mission of promoting youth development in cycling. Under his guidance, the velodrome will continue to serve as a launchpad for future champions of the sport.
Strengthen Community and Business Ties: Lea and the VPCC team remain committed to strengthening ties between the Valley Preferred Cycling Center and the Lehigh Valley residents and businesses. There will be a renewed focus on bringing new partnerships to the region to benefit the facility and the community.
The 2024 race season will kick off on May 24 with the all-new American Classic, and continue through August 16.
